Tanner Perry Back to Playing Baseball

Saturday, April 26, 2008 was a typical day for the Perry family.  Tanner, (12), had just finished a baseball game in Oak Grove and returned home with his father Matthew and brothers Trenton and Taylor. 
 
Just minutes later, Trenton discovered Tanner in the backyard halfway on the ground with his neck caught in the rope swing which was set up on the backyard oak tree.  Tanner had played on the rope a hundred times before, but this time something went wrong. 
 
Luckily it had only been a couple minutes since Tanner's accident when Trenton came out to find Tanner.

LifeFlight Eagle adds Night Vision Goggles – The Difference is Night and Day!

LifeFlight Eagle recently made a very significant investment in the overall safety of its air ambulance program which serves western Missouri and eastern Kansas.  The nonprofit program has added the use of Night Vision Goggles (NVG) to greatly enhance pilot visibility during nighttime transports.
 
NVGs have been used in military helicopter night time operations for decades, and most recently, have been identified as a key safety enhancement for air medical operations.

Community Service Salute - Larry Francis, Chief of Harrisonville Emergency Services

Larry Francis has been the Chief of Harrisonville Emergency Services since March of 2005.  

Originally from a small central Illinois community called Thomasboro, Larry began as a volunteer fire fighter at the age of 16.  A third generation fire fighter, Larry continues what he refers to as the family business.  He is in his twenty-sixth year of service.

LifeFlight Eagle Celebrates 30 Years of Service!

2008 marks 30 years of service for the LifeFlight Eagle program.  Much has changed since we began in 1978.  Helicopters and technology have come and gone as we push forward to keep the program on the cutting edge of emergency medical transport and care.
 
What hasn't changed is the dedication we have as a nonprofit community service.  I think it's important to look back and recall that the program was started at the then St. Joseph Hospital, (now St. Joseph Medical Center).  Several years later, Research Hospital did the same with Research Eagle.  When we look back to those years, we discover where our service roots come from.

Who’s Who At LifeFlight Eagle – Fred Dressler, Lead Mechanic

Fred Dressler is the lead mechanic in support of LifeFlight Eagle's air ambulance program.  Since pilots and mechanics are supplied to LifeFlight Eagle, Fred is actually an employee of Petroleum Helicopters Incorporated, (PHI), our air operator as of January 1, 2008.
 
Despite LifeFlight Eagle's recent partnership with PHI, Fred has actually been with the program since before the Research Eagle and Spirit of Kansas City LifeFlight merger.  Fred started with Research Eagle in 1988 and has switched air operators four times in twenty years in order to stay with the LifeFlight Eagle.

National Accreditation for Paramedics a Step in the Right Direction
It's safe to say we all agree that it makes great sense for those trained in medical services to have a central accreditation standard.  Doctors and nurses must of course graduate from accredited institutions to guarantee a level of skill and expertise and also to be connected to progress and advancements in their fields.  Simply put, standardizing their educational processes on a national basis, clarifies that they are delivering quality medical care.
