The Fox 4 Love Fund 5k Run & Family Walk took place on Saturday, September 26th, 2009 in the Cedar Creek Community of Olathe, Kansas, near the Cedar Creek Golf Course. The fund raising event supports the Fox 4 Love Fund for Children’s mission of providing essential services to qualifying children 18 and under. Joining the effort this year as representatives of LifeFlight Eagle were staff and crew members, Jim Johnson, Sherri Dean, Tori Maisch, Joey Araiza and James Evangelista. All did very well – Tori and Joey even placed second and third respectively in their age groups. All told, the event had a great turnout of runners and families who walked – nearly $50,000 was raised to help the children. The Love Fund primarily works through social service workers, teachers, school districts, doctors and nurses and clergy – to reach children in need whose circumstances may fall outside other charitable services. The Love Fund is in constant communication with this network of professionals, so when a child’s needs cannot be met by other resources, the Love Fund for Children can help in providing the many requests. The requests are varied but they provide, beds to sleep on, new clothing, eyeglasses, medical and dental assistance, and positive changes in lives of children by providing funding for camps and music equipment to raise the self-esteem of a child, just to name a few. In addition to runner registration fees, the Love Fund 5k Run was sponsored by local businesses in the community that donated goods and services or gave sponsorship dollars.
